The Lauri Jones Sweeney Memorial Education Fund is a $1,000 scholarship given to local graduating high school seniors seeking to pursue careers in the fields of teaching and education. It is a one-time award given to five students.
The selection committee is searching for candidates who possess the characteristics that Lauri embodied. Lauri dedicated her life’s work to education, and both her students and fellow educators describe her as an inspiring, dynamic, and deeply engaging force within the school system. Lauri approached every student as an individual, striving to meet their specific needs and help them succeed. She brought laughter and joy into the classroom and made learning fun. She was also a leading voice and advocate within the school system’s administrative bodies. Selected candidates will demonstrate the ways they share Lauri’s passion and determination to be a positive influence in education.
